Interests

I feel like I should write a little about myself.

My interests include: design, art, current events, sports, politics, books, graffiti, counter-culture, sounds, music (everything from country to hip hop to reggae to electronica), philosophy, parties, beer, girls, nature, new experiences, making new friends, hanging out with old friends, stuff like that.

Do I have too many interests? Sometimes it’s hard for me to focus on one thing for a while. Right now I’m thinking about design, and typography; downloading some fonts that I want to use later. As I check my desktop, there are about 100 songs that I’ve been meaning to listen to, hopefully I’ll find some good ones to play out next time I DJ around town. I’ve been working on my mixes, nothing too crazy yet, but I’m almost finished with my top40/dance promo mix which should be good, so look forward to that.

I’m also interested in fashion. My pipe dream is to create a clothing company, starting with basics: T-shirts, socks, shorts, underwear, done well and affordable. The line would be marketed towards college students and young professionals.

I would say that my sense of style is informed by skate culture. My two favorite brands to wear right now are Enjoi and Girl; after that I would probably say J Crew, LRG and Polo Ralph Lauren. Kind of opposite ends of the spectrum, but they all do one thing: make you look good, and feel comfortable.

Personal Beliefs

I believe in practicality and simplicity, and try to incorporate these ideas into my life. I love analog things (like synths); I prefer handwriting to type. I like to think about art, and about the way we live today. If I had to give one piece of advice it would be this:

Ask why?

its a rush, anyone who's done it will tell you that.

My basic view on art is that it is meant to make people think. many people today might agree that they are dealing with too many messages in their lives; it feels like I spend 90% of my waking hours trying to make sense of it all...

maybe my math is a bit off.

anyways, what I'm getting at is that more or less messages isn't the problem, but the quality...and the Effect (of course this is completely subjective to the individual). What i take from the graffiti movement in the last few decades--is these pieces in unexpected places are welcome grassroots artworks that incorporate and uplift/ even enlighten their surroundings-the most modern art form in my eyes

I’m starting up my blog again. Hopefully this will keep me off the streets and out of trouble

I've decided to restart this blog again, basically as a place to put my ramblings, since I dont expect anyone to read this. My goal is to become more accustomed to writing in a casual, yet informational way while (hopefully) offering new ideas or views on interesting issues and current events.

I've seen a few blogs of friends and people that I admire, and I'm going to try not to compare them with this... I know that its going to take a while before my writing is at a level that i'm satisfied with. Hopefully I will be able to continue this blog through the year while I search for employment, wisdom, and happiness, among other, less noble pursuits. My friend Mikhial, who is hilarious, started a very cool travel blog--except it only lasted three posts. I never told him the I liked it... Anyways, on the slim chance that someone reads this, please let me know how horrible and/or ignorant you think I am.

I'm going to try to write in here about everyday, concerning stuff that someone like me might or might not think about; pretty much anything is fair game I suppose. I plan to focus on current events on a global and local scale, with an emphasis on ideas that I believe would make the world a better place.

I want to know everything

I just finished reading The Watchmen... SO GOOD. I highly Recommend you read it. Yea its a comic book, so what, it's the best one ever. It's the only graphic novel on Time's 2005 list of "the 100 best English-language novels." My friend said it looked stupid when I showed him I was reading it... but screw him, he's a d bag.

I picked it up when I saw the trailer for the Watchmen movie, which looks badass by the way.I was reading the wikipedia for it (probably helpful if you want to know everything) and the writer, Alan Moore, seems pretty against turning it into a movie, saying, "You can also flip back a few pages relatively easily to see where a certain image connects with a line of dialogue from a few pages ago. But in a film, by the nature of the medium, you're being dragged through it at 24 frames per second." I agree with him, you could not pull off what he and Dave Gibbons (the artist) in any other medium.
Moore also said, "there's stuff in there Dave had put in that even I only noticed on the sixth or seventh read"

I still think the movie is going to be SWEET, but for different reasons than the book was. The directer from 300 is doing it and 300 was so badass, too bad he's not gonna do it all on green screen again...

And heres the song from the trailer by smashing pumpkins, The Beginning Is The End Is The Beginning. SO APPROPRIATE, if you've read the comic you know. When you get to the end of the book you'll look back at the cover, like, "damn." lol.
